The first long weekend of the year and it was hot, humid and went by super fast. I spent the majority of my time south of the river but there was just no reprieve from the weather.
Even though I felt totally zapped of energy, I’m glad I managed to fit in some exercise. Walking around Piney lakes was very different compared to Lake Monger. For one thing, it’s much more hilly and more exposed to a main road. The scenery is more bushy, with trails and paths going in random directions and the people visit to walk their dogs and meet for picnics, rather than run clubs or dedicated exercise.
At one stage, I did get lost. Lol. But I managed to work it out.
I went to my parents for lunch and then ended up sorting through old DVD’s and VHS tapes. Oh, it brought back so many memories of my childhood. It was actually really hard parting with a lot of them. It’s the nostalgia 😦
Then, I was absolutely craving ube, so I went to Westfield Carousel and got a caramel ube frappe. They are the BEST! Expensive, but so worth it. It’s definitely a ‘sometimes’ food though; I would not lose weight if I had them everyday.
I was absolutely exhausted by the time I got home, so ended up getting takeaway and watching Netflix.
OH! And I missed the Triple J Hottest 100 countdown! That annoyed me so much. I did get to listen to it on Monday but it was hard to not look up the winner. I don’t know if it’s deserved though. Like, a lot of the songs were very mainstream… it didn’t sit well with me, but I guess the radio didn’t know those songs would become so popular…
Then, on Sunday, I went to the gym. I’m so happy I joined a gym that gives me access to different locations. I couldn’t exactly walk to this one like my local gym, but it was a lot more modern, clean and spacious. I didn’t mind the trade off.
I also got my eyebrows done because they were looking so ratchet. The shops were actually quite busy; I thought that they would be deserted because it’s Australia Day, but no, it was super busy.
There’s just so much controversy around Aus day that I just didn’t want to do anything, so I ended up watching a movie and going to bed early.
Yep.
So interesting.
I could hear the fireworks though.
I love fireworks.
Maybe next year I’ll go overseas or something. Like, I am proud to be Australian and I want to celebrate it, but not at the expense of others who associate it with trauma. Thing is, they need to change the legislation to change the date and sometimes that can take a while. I don’t think it’s as simple as what people think… but I’m not a lawyer or politician so I can’t really comment.
But yeah. Over time I just feel it’s a little weird to partake in Australia Day. Is that a normal feeling to have? I don’t know.
What I can say is that I just want Australia to be united. But, is any country united? I don’t know. It’s just wishful thinking.
And come today, the very last day of the long weekend, I literally just did chores to get ready for the work day tomorrow. I would normally do this on a Sunday but it’s nice to be back in routine.
Even though I’m appreciative of the time off, I’ve realised that I really need structure to function and when I don’t get it I get so frustrated and lost. So, I’m happy that I did some exercise during the long weekend; it felt like I was keeping up with my fitness in check. Same goes for grocery shopping and chores.
The only thing that I don’t like is the fact that long weekend is now up and I have to get back to my 9 to 5 reality.
Boo.
Much love,
